NAPOLCOM RO1 conducts Gender Empowerment Webinar


As part of the activities planned for the Women’s Month Celebration, the Regional Office conducted the Webinar on Gender Empowerment on March 26, 2021 at 10 o’clock in the morning. Said webinar aimed to value the dignity of every person and guarantee full respect for human rights, security and safety of both men and women on all aspects of life, and to promote solidarity, opportunities and responsibilities in a society, which are shared by women and men in equal measure.

There were 73 participants who actively joined said webinar. Among the participants were 53 Police Officers from the Police Regional Office 1 and Police Provincial Offices of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan and 20 NAPOLCOM RO1 employees.

During the program, Ms. Cecile Joy C. Ofiana, Administrative Aide IV led the invocation followed by the acknowledgement of participants. After which, Ms. Mary Jane C. Cacanindin, Police Inspector IV and Assistant Chief of Technical Services Division delivered her opening message. She accentuated that gender empowerment is the provision, availability, and accessibility of opportunities, services, and observance of human rights which enable both men and women to be resilient amidst pandemic. Ms. Marivic R. Marzan, Acting Planning Officer III introduced the Resource Speaker.

Atty. Leilani P. Vecina, DPA, OIC-Office of the Assistant Regional Director was the Resource Speaker of said webinar. She discussed, “Workplace Discrimination Based on SOGIE” where she defined sexual orientation, gender expressions and gender discrimination. She also highlighted that both men and women especially the LGBT+ Community have encountered discrimination in the workplace and public places.

Atty. Allan D. Ancheta, Chief of Technical Services Division, concluded said program with a quotation, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn.”
